Company History
In 1986 Mark Lilly purchased Sunnybank Garage, at that time it had a small workshop and bodyshop with a forecourt that would only accommodate approximately 20 vehicles.
Fairly soon after purchasing the site Mark replaced the old workshop and increased the building size to accommodate a three ramp workshop, a car cleaning area and three offices. At the same time the forecourt was extended to enable a far greater number of vehicles to be displayed.
In 1989 Mark realised that diesel motoring was the future and the site became dedicated exclusively to the sale and repair of diesel vehicles, this strategy was an instant success and the business continued to grow throughout the late Eighties and early Nineties. As with most businesses in the early Nineties the recession bought a complete halt to any growth in sales, fortunately the teams reputation for superb customer service combined with their straightforward and fair approach to all their customers ensured that the business managed to survive through a time when many other business failed.
Having survived the recession the teams reputation has again stood them in good stead as in the intervening years the business has grown steadily, with a massive rate of repeat business in excess of 35%. This on it’s own speaks volumes for the teams integrity and approachableness, a source of great pride to each and every member of staff.
In 1998 it became apparent that the business had once again outgrown the site and plans were submitted to modernise and extend the buildings and display area. After a protracted period of negotiation with the Local Authorities the plans were accepted and work began on the current Workshop and Showroom building in July 2003. The modernisation was completed in the beginning of 2004 and since then the business has continued to develop at a remarkable pace.
Throughout the business has remained true to Mark’s original idea of offering the best selection of diesel vehicles in the South East, with the highest level of traditional, personal service.
The core members of the team have all been with or involved with the company for in excess of 20 years. This continuity of staff has enabled us to create a close personal rapport with our customers going back decades.
